Not all issues need to be assessed by the GP. We have appointments with specially trained clinicians to deal with many issues such as:

Advanced Care Practitioner

  • New pain/pain management
  • Neurological symptoms (dizziness, migraines/headaches, falls/balance issues
  • Gynaecology (prolapse, urinary incontinence, inter-menstrual bleeding
  • Dermatology (acne, rashes, moles, itching)
  • Kidney/liver issues
  • Cardiac (fast heart rate, irregular pulse, issues with heart medication, chest pain)
  • Abdomen (pain, bowel issues, dietary issues, diarrhoea, acute abdominal issues and chronic abdominal issues.

Nurse

  • Contraceptive reviews/depo injections
  • Asthma reviews
  • Cervical screening
  • Ear checks/syringing
  • Vaccinations (HPV, men ACWY, shingles, Flu, whooping cough + more)
  • Injections (b12, prostrap, zoladex)

Healthcare Assistant

  • Long term condition reviews (diabetes & hypertension)
  • Blood pressure reading
  • ECG,
  • Simple asthma reviews
  • Simple contraceptive reviews
  • Simple wound care/dressing changes and stitches removed

Minor Ailments

  • Cold symptoms
  • Constipation
  • Lumps and swellings
  • Nose and eye issues (sinusitis, hay fever, nose bleeds)
  • Throat issues (sore throat, tonsilitis)
  • Minor injuries (simple wounds, burns & sprains)
  • Rashes

First Contact Physiotherapy

Soft tissue injuries, sports injuries, arthritis, muscle issues, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, ankle sprains, back pain, nerve symptoms (pins and needles or numbness).

First Contact Mental Health

Depression awareness and management, anxiety management, relapse prevention, coping skills, risk management, talking therapies.

Travel Vaccinations

If you're planning to travel outside the UK, you may need to be vaccinated against some of the serious diseases found in other parts of the world.

 

Blood taking services

There are many different ways you can get a blood test:

York Community Stadium

The new Community Stadium is on Kathryn Avenue, Monks Cross Drive, Huntington, YO32 9AF, which has free parking up to two hours. It is recommended that patients attend before 17:15 to avoid being turned away.

Opening times: Monday to Friday – 8:00 to 17.45.

York Hospital

The blood taking service at York Hospital outpatient department is open to walk in patients, although patients should attend the service at York Community Stadium where possible.

Opening times: Monday to Friday – 8:00 to 17:00.

Nimbus

Nimbus offer a blood taking service at their site at Askham Bar. Please contact them on 01904 943690 to arrange an appointment.

Availability: Monday to Friday – 8:00 to 17:45.
Location: Askham Bar Community Diagnostic Centre, Moor Ln, York, YO24 1LW

Unity Health

Phlebotomoy at the practice is by appointment only, please contact the practice to arrange an appointment. Please note that blood taking appointments at the surgery are limited and are therefore prioritised for patients with a long term condition. 

You will always need either a blood form or a barcode provided by the practice before going for your blood test.
